One of our advanced Bushcraft Courses, the Friction Fire Lighting Week is completely unique to the UK.
Through this five day course you will discover the various techniques available to you for friction fire lighting all in one course, constructing your own sets from the woodland environment, our expert instructors will work with you on a daily basis with each day concentrating on a new technique.
Following camp set up and getting the fire on, day 1 is spent really getting to grips with understanding different tinder choices, and then mastering the fire bow method, understanding different components, the use of different woods, and different techniques. The day culminates in you selecting your own materials to construct your own set.
Lunch is provided by means of a light snack, and your evening meal consists of Roast Venison, which you have the opportunity to butcher yourself should you wish, cooked in a fire pit accompanied by Roast Veg.
Day 2 we step up a gear and begin to work on the hand drill technique, understanding the rotations and pressures required to achieve your ember. Following a lunch of venison steaks we look at the more advanced fire saw, where the afternoon is spent dedicated to achieving this technique.
Game is provided for the communal evening meal and there is the opportunity to relax those muscles in our beautiful woodland.
Day 3 focuses on the fire thong and the pump drill as different techniques for getting your ember. Where once again you will construct your own working pieces to take away with you.
Once again lunch and dinner is provided by means of game/fish which you will have the opportunity to prepare yourselves.
Day 4 focuses on some more unusual approaches to achieving fire by friction, to give the muscles a bit of a rest, with some light hearted approaches to achieving that ultimate aim of getting the ember, this includes building some group sets that can be applied to teaching other people your methods.
Lunch and dinner is provided by means of game/fish which you will have the opportunity to prepare yourselves.
Day 5 consolodates all of your knoweldge built through the week and introduces the technique of the floating hand drill, not something you will master in a day, or even a week, but something to go away and practice on!
