Tailor Made Courses

Our tailor made courses are a one day course suited to your particular needs, this course can be extended to an overnight stay also.

You have a number of options available to you:

1. Bushcraft Basics course, which gives you an introduction to the basic principles of survival- fire, food, shelter and water.

2. Choose one of the topics in the list below and have an in-depth course on that subject.

3. Topics of your choice.


These options are aimed at groups/individuals who want to learn how to live more comfortably in the wilds, in a fun and friendly environment.
These courses take place on the beautiful Catton Hall estate in Derbyshire, or within our 250 acres woodland in Oxfordshire.

We can be flexible with times to suit your needs. For the one day course we generally recommend 09:30 to 16:30, for the overnight course we recommend 10:00 to 10:00 the following morning.

1. Bushcraft Basics Course:
Skills covered:
Fire- Fire lays, natural tinder’s and kindling, ignition principles, (including fire steel, flint and steel, chemicals, fire by friction etc), the fire triangle.
Food- Preparation of game (plus extra rabbit/pigeon and making damper bread for the overnight course).
Shelter- Building a lean too woodland survival shelter (and sleeping in the shelter for the overnight course).
Water- Sourcing, collecting, filtering and purification techniques.
Foraging- Natural foods, medicinal plants, tree identification.
Natural Navigation- Solar navigation, stars, natural indicators. (Overnight course only)
Where time allows if you have a specific request to include a subject we will do our utmost to deliver this for you.

2.Comprehensive Course:
This is designed for those with an existing knowledge of survival techniques and would like to specialise in the following areas: Please choose one of the following areas.
Fire by friction- as above plus make your own fire bow and use it, using only natural materials
Food- Build on your existing knowledge of wild foods to create your own meal to include carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and protein. Also discover various game, mammal and fish preparation techniques
Shelter- Building a wide variety of Survival Shelters to suit a variety of habitats
Water- Sourcing, collecting, filtering and purification techniques
Tracking- Learn various tracking skills and learn how to identify various animal tracks and signs.
Traps and Snares- learn various trapping and snaring techniques which focus on the principle of strangle, mangle, dangle and tangle. You will build a variety of your own traps and snares.
Navigation- Map reading skills tailored to build on your existing knowledge- this can include an introduction to map and compass, contour interpretation, bearings, 6, 8, 10 figure grid references, relocation, back bearings, resection, pacing, distance etc. We can also cover emergency evacuation techniques- (Please note this course can also be run as a day course in the Peak District)

3. Topics of your choice
Choose 2 to 3 topics of your choice for an intermediate level course. If you do not see something on the list that you would like to try then just contact us and we will do our best to accommodate this.

Course Cost:
The course cost depends on the subject to be taught. As a guideline you can expect a price of between £75-£85 per person for a day course (min 10 persons at weekends, 8 mid week), £110- £120 for an overnight stay. We would be happy to provide you with a quote.
