Emergency Drinking Straw that filters and purifies. It may not look like much but this piece of kit could save your life!

This Iodine resin based filtration/purification system allows you to place one end in water and suck, the iodine will remove 96% of viruses and bacteria (not chemicals) and provides you with up to c. 40 litres of drinking water (depending on the quality you put through).

So what do our instructors think? Here Alec writes:

"At the end of the day, this straw is £7.99, if it sits in your rucksack for a couple of years and you never have to use it I think it is worth the expense. But on the flip side, if during the 2nd year you are in a situation where you need to ingest water, boiling is going to be problematic, you don't have a filtration and purification device with you... just take this out and get on with it... ok it is not as versatile as say maybe the premac as you cannot transfer the treated water into another vessal for a different use, it goes straight into your mouth... but it is only £7.99!"

Advantages: This device is a great emergency device you can rely on for clean drinking water.

Disadvantages: It is iodine based so check your tollerence levels, also you cannot decant the water into another vessel.
