Originally developed for the military these Swedish fire steels are approximatly 13cm long with the expose steel being 6cm long. They have a Reindeer antler handle and do not come with a striker (you can use the back of your knife) this helps to reduce weight in your rucksack!

Once the black safety covering has been scraped off all you have to do is scrape the back of your knife down the steel at approximatly a 45 degree angle and you will be provided with a shower of sparks coming off at about 3000 degrees!

Each fire steel lasts approximatly 10,000 strikes and can be used to ignite natural tinders such as Birch bark aswell as picnic stoves and man made materials such as cotton wool and char cloth.
