During this four day course you will not only learn how to prepare a deer for the pot (or hot rocks!), but our instructors will also guide you through the different stages of hide preparation and scraping the hide clean in preparation for making buckskin.
In order to naturally dry and stretch your hide we will demonstrate to you how to construct a rack in the wild using natural materials and lashings.
After scraping, de-hairing and soaking the hide you will also have the opportunity to make needles from the bones and sinews to use when sewing the buckskin.
Once the hide has been slowly dried, stretched and buffed it becomes beautifully soft.The buckskin is then smoked to give it a wonderful dark colour and a degree of weatherproofing.
Our instructors will be on hand to help you design a bag or pouch to sew from your buckskin and examples of items made by the instructors as well as some traditional patterns will be available to inspire you.
