An incredibly reliable natural tinder for use in all weathers.
These Maya sticks are a natural product from the pine tree family. The amazing factor with these is the incredibly high resin content, a result of how they are produced. This resin content enables the sticks to be lit from a spark from you firesteel (or even a lighter!).
We guarantee you a minimum of 300 grams in sticks but due to Maya being a natural product you may receive slightly more than this in your order.
What do our instructors think? Here Jason writes;
"I have used this tinder material to get fires lit in the jungles of Borneo through to the woodlands of the UK and it has never let me down. In stick form you create the powder yourself that you will see others sell in a tub known as "Maya Dust". Sometimes the tub version is a little too course to take a spark, whereas processing it yourself from the stick, using the back of your knife, you can create downy shavings. I also like the fact that you can pop a couple of these sticks into your rucksac and they will still be intact a few years later if you have not used them, unlike hexi blocks or fire lighters."
Advantages: Works in all weathers and is not susceptable to moisture. Easy to pack into a rucksac. Will not blow away at the slightest breeze as the maya dust can. Easier to light than the Maya dust and gives a longer lasting flame to get your fire established. Better value for money buying it in the stick form.
Disadvantages: Although Maya is a natural tinder you have to carry it with you as it does not occur naturally in the UK. They are hard to make feather sticks from however use it as tinder and not as kindling.
