Remote Emergency Care Level 2 - Outdoor First Aid
Remote Emergency Care (REC) Level 2 is a two-day practical course designed for outdoor instructors and enthusiasts and those who work in remote environments.
Woodland Ways have joined forces with Training Expertise to tailor this programme so that it is like no other First Aid Qualification that you will have been on before. It takes place entirely in the outdoors, with our instructors on hand working with you as casualties in the outdoors. Your first aid training does not get more realistic than this, and in its second year of delivery this course has created much interest in the industry.
This course fulfills the requirements of the major outdoor National Governing Bodies for first aid training (e.g. MLTUK, BCU). The course is delivered by outdoor people for outdoor people, and involves plenty of outdoor scenarios.
We do not do pretty bandages, you will be trained realistically to deal with the likely situations you will face in the outdoors, using all the equipment available to hand, wether that be a bandage, a basha stretcher, or some gaffa tape, you are trained to work in remote locations.
It is aimed at outdoor professionals and enthusiasts, the course covers both life-saving skills and also care for more common problems that happen in the outdoors, such as
blisters, dehydration and hypothermia.
The Course covers the following:
- Scene management and personal protection
- Legal considerations
- The ABCDE of first aid
- Dealing with unconscious patients
- Airway management and The Safe Airway Position
- Choking and asthma
- Serious bleeding
- Burns
- Managing head and spinal injuries
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in the wilderness
- Management of shock, including anaphylaxis and the use of the Epipen
- Vital signs and patient monitoring
- Fracture management
- Wound management – cuts, grazes, road rash and blisters
- Diabetes and dealing with low blood sugar
- Hypothermia
- Dehydration and hyperthermia
- Heart disease
- Seizures and stroke
This is an entry level course and no previous first aid knowledge is required to attend.
Upon sucessful completion of the two day course you will be issued a certificate valid for 2 years, certified by Remote Emergency Care.
You can go home at the end of day one and then return for day two or you are more than welcome to stay around the fire in the evening if you bring your own basha,tent, hammock or bivi bag.You will also need to provide your own food & drinks for this course.
We guarentee that following this course you will never want to suffer "death by powerpoint" again and will want ALL future 1st aid requalifications to be as realistic as this.
