Our courses cover a wide variety of subjects aimed at a variety of levels, but each and every one of them are designed to give you a fun experience within beautiful & relaxed surroundings.

Woodland Ways Weekend
The Woodland Ways Weekend is our introductory Bushcraft & Survival Course; learn the skills of fire lighting, natural foods including fish/game preparation, shelter building using only natural materials, water collection filtration and purification. Spend a night out in the wood under the stars!
 
This weekend course goes beyond our Foraging day course and is spent looking at processing a range of wild foods including a variety of game and wild plants. This hands on course includes making sauces, jams and jellies, roasting & plucking as well as grilling and use of a ground oven. We will also cover basic animal anatomy and biology, plant identification and food hygiene.
 
Winter Survival Skills Weekend
The Woodland Ways Winter Survival Skills Weekend is a more advanced Bushcraft and Survival Course focussing on the immediate short term priorities for winter survival - Shelter & Warmth, before building on the more advanced skills of gathering wild foods and tracking.
 
Tracking Weekend
Join our instructors to learn the ancient art of tracking. Throughout the weekend our instructors will work with you to identify animal tracks and signs, moving further into the realms of tracking we will also develop your stalking techniques to allow you to move silently through the woodland. Experience the woodland come alive at dawn and experience dusk through the eyes of a deer!

 Bow Making Weekend
Have you ever wanted to have a go at making your very own wooden bow but not sure how to go about it? Our expert Instructors will guide you step by step through the whole process looking at suitable woods for bow making, bow design and factors effecting the efficiency. We also cover finshing the bow and bow after care as well as string making.

Stone Age Weekend – Flint Knapping
Have you ever wanted to know how prehistoric man made their tools? Join us and learn the art of pre historic hand axe production, how to make flakes for butchery and hide scrapers. You will then have the opportunity to use your tools to prepare your meals. We will also work with you on the production of blade cores and basic survival tools. On day two we step up a gear and work on the production of finer tools where you will make a leaf point arrowhead, followed by the production of a fully fledged arrow using hazel from the woodland.

Remote Emergency Care (REC) Level 2 - Outdoor First Aid
This is a two day practical course aimed at instructors and outdoor enthusiasts and those who work in remote environments. It covers both life saving skills as well as care for more common problems that occur outdoors such as blisters, hyperthermia and dehydration. This is an entry level course and no prior first aid training is required to attend. Upon succesful completion of the course you will receive a certificate valid for two years certified by Remote Emeregency Care. 

Hide Tanning
This four day Hide Tanning Course will equip you with all the skills you need to skin, prepare and cook a deer. Working through all the different stages of hide preparation and tanning a hide using natural resources. You will skin, scrap and soak the hide and make needles for sewing from the bones and sinews. Our instructors will be on hand to help you design a bag or pouch to sew from your skin.

Woodland Crafts Weekend
Over this weekend our instructors will show you how to source the right materials & prepare them for willow weaving & how to make a simple basket. The various techniques learnt will enable you to make any woven container such as arrow quivers & willow fish & eel traps. We also cover the different types of wood used for various applications & show you how to carve spoons, ladles & bowls.

 Axe Workshop & Tree Interpretation Weekend
Our Axe workshop & Tree Interpretation course goes beyond anything that is currently available on the UK market. Come and learn from the master about tree identification, the language of trees, and then how to use your tools safely.The practical aspect includes a large amount of axe work during day light hours including how to fell, limb, log up and split different woods using an axe. We also cover appropriate tool choice, pruning cuts, dealing with hung up trees and the legal framework of sharp edged tools and working with trees.

Family Bushcraft Course
Our Family Bushcraft course is a one-day and one night course aimed at parents and children who want to learn how to live more comfortably in the wilds. The course is designed to be a family friendly course, enabling parents and children to discover together some of the delights of learning to live with the resources available to us in the wilds, skills include shelter building, fire, water.

Teenagers Fundamental Bushcraft Course                                               
The Teenagers Fundamental Bushcraft Course is aimed at teenagers between 12 - 17 years of age. This course is designed to promote self responsiibility and a responsibility for the environment,within a woodland setting. Parents are welcome to join the course if they wish although we actively encourage teenagers to attend without parental supervision on this course! Here you will spend two days and one night out in our woodlands covering the fundamental skills of bushcraft including fire lighting and management, campfire cooking, game preparation, shelter building, sleeping in your shelter, tracking and woodcraft.

Bush Craft Fundamentals Day Course    
An introductory day aimed at teaching you the skills of how to survive, namely lighting your fire without matches, preparing wild food, building a waterproof woodland shelter using only natural materials and collecting, filtering and purifying your water.

Online Wild Food Course
Woodland Ways have joined forces with Marcus Harrison, the UK's leading expert on wild foods, to launch this new online distance learning wild food course. We believe this bridges the gap between going on a course with a professional forager, and learning from a book. It is suitable for anyone who wishes to deepen their interest in British wild food... whatever their level of foraging experience.

Spring, Summer and Autumn Foraging Day Course
Join our instructors on a forage and learn flora identification techniques, useful, edible and medicinal plants. Learn how to harvest these resources in a sustainable manner and how to prepare each ingredient. Includes tasting sessions throughout the day and the opportunity to practice cooking techniques, including preparing and cooking your own game lunch, vegetarian options are also available.

The Woodlander
This is THE most comprehensive bushcraft course available in the UK. Aimed at those with either a personal and or a proffesional interest in progressing their bushcraft knowledge to heights they did not think possible, the depth and breadth of skills taught here is unsurpassed. This is a personal development course with extra special private access to our woodlands for you to consolidate your skills.  Friction Fire Lighting Week
This is one of our advanced courses and over the 5 day period you will discover the various techniques available to you for friction fire lighting. You will construct your own sets using materials from the woodland and you will learn about the different types of woods best suited to each technique. Our expert instructors will work with you on a daily basis concentrating on a new technique every day. Techniques covered include Fire Bow, Hand Drill, Fire Thong, Pump Drill & Fire Saw.

4X4 Voyager
Our 4x4 Voyager course is designed to give you the confidence and ability to plan and tackle your off road adventures, whilst learning survival skills at the same time.

Woodland Ways Walks – Intermediate Navigation
Our Intermediate Navigation course is designed for people who have an understanding of the features on the map but would like to develop their knowledge further. We cover interpreting the map within the landscape, understanding scales, calculating distances, providing grid references plus more advanced techniques including calculating magnetic & grid bearings, walking on a bearing plus much more.

Sahara Desert Survival Course – Morocco
Our highly skilled Instructors will teach you how to survive in one of the most unforgiving environments in the world. We travel into the Sahara including the Cedar forests of the Atlas Mountains wild camping along the way. You will learn how to source water, light fire, build shelters & find food in a variety of desert environments. No prior experience is required for this course.
 
See the world through the eyes of a Masai Warrior. A unique insight into the rapidly disappearing world of a proud race of people. The trip will begin at Nairobi where we will be collected by our Masai hosts. Over the 10 days you will the experience all aspects of traditional Masai life. Living with them in one of their villages you will sample their food, culture, customs, music and dance. We will also accompany the warriors on foot across the Rift Valley, tracking the amazing wildlife of the Kenyan savannah. This amazing experience is exclusive to us.
