*New Spring Forage course date added due to overwhelming demand*

We deliver two foraging courses throughout the year to discover the different resources available to you at different times of the year, a Spring Forage and an Autumn Forage. On both courses you will join our instructors on a days forage around the woodland to take a look at what we can find.

During these forages we will cover flora identification techniques, and some of the useful edible and medicinal plants available to us in our British Woodland.

Further to this, through hands on training, you will learn how to harvest these resources in a sustainable manner, and finally how to prepare each ingredient. There will be tasting sessions through the day and the opportunity for you to practice cooking techniques.

You will also have the opportunity, should you wish, to prepare and cook your own game lunch around the camp fire, (Vegetarian options are always available). This lunch will be either Rabbit, Pigeon, Partridge, Pheasant, or Trout. If you have a specific interest in a particular food type then just can also let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate this.

Course costs: £55 per person

Or you may book on both the Spring Forage and the Autumn Forage course at the same time and save £10 on the total cost, that's £100 for both courses!

*New Course for 2008!*

During this course you are invited to join our instructors in either the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire, or the wonderful landscape of the peak district, to develop your map and compass skills.

Initially we will brush up on the basics of interpreting the map within the landscape, understanding scales, calculating distances, providing 4 and 6 figure grid references, and setting the map to ground.

We will then move on to learn, and put into practice, some more advanced map and compass skills. These will include orientating the map to identify features, calculating magnetic and grid bearings, walking on a bearing, use of attack points, identification of hazards, use of handrails, relocation strategies, and probably the most important skill to learn of all… contour interpretation.

The course is run entirely out on the hills and is completely "hands on". You will be provided with a map of the area and guided through all of the above skills to provide you with the confidence to plan and execute your own navigational lowland walks using the footpath network.

Course costs: £50 per person
