Stone Age Weekend

Have you ever wanted to know how prehistoric man made their tools?
On this course we are joined by Karl Lee, one of the countries leading Flintknappers, (making of Prehistoric tools), and Primitive Technologists. The course begins on the Friday night where we set up camp and enjoy a game evening meal, which of course you prepare yourself using a modern bushcraft knife.
After a night under the stars we will guide you through pre historic hand axe production, and how to make flakes for butchery and hide scrapers. You will then have the opportunity to use your tools to prepare your meals. We will also work with you on the production of blade cores and basic survival tools.
On the second day we step up a gear and work on the production of finer tools where you will initially make a leaf point arrowhead, followed by the production of a fully fledged arrow using hazel from the woodland. You will also be using the scrapers and blade core tools produced on day one for all of your work, enabling you to come away with the confidence that you could produce useable tools without the use of modern equipment.
All food and equipment is provided on the course, and you are able to take away all tools that you have produced over the weekend. The workshops take place within our large bell tents, complete with wood burning stove for extra warmth!
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading experts for a weekend, and early booking is recommended as places are booking up fast.

Marshland Ways Weekend
On this course our instructors take you to the harsh, yet beautiful, Marshlands of The Wash. Building on your existing knowledge of fire, food, shelter & water we will guide you through shelter building in an environment that does not surrender many materials. We will also cover the psychology of survival, marshland plant identification, choice of clothing and equipment, natural cordage, tracking, map and compass navigation, natural navigation, search and rescue techniques & casualty evacuation. This area is arguably one of the best areas in England for wide sweeping skies; we therefore spend an evening learning the constellations and navigation by stars (subject to weather conditions)

Fungi Weekend
This course begins on the Friday evening where you will be met by our instructors, provided with all of the equipment you will need, and then utilising your existing Bushcraft knowledge you will set up camp.
Our instructors are on hand throughout the weekend to provide help & support but the emphasis here is on you putting into practice what you have already learnt.
On Saturday you will be joined by our Fungi specialist and guided through the various techniques of identifying, harvesting, and cooking edible fungi. There will also be opportunities to harvest other wild foods, culminating in a culinary delight of a meal on the Saturday evening!
On Sunday before striking camp we will then guide you through different woods for carving and tool making, ending with a session on carving your own spoon, an excellent keep sake with which to enjoy your next bowl of mushroom soup!
This course is still a lot of fun but is designed for those who already have a good knowledge base of bushcraft (i.e. by attending a day course or introductory weekend).
