Basketry and bark work weekend

A weekend of basketry and harvesting, processing and crafting beautiful items from a range of tree barks and materials.

Our British woodlands are crammed with incredible natural materials that had huge significance for the lives of our ancestors and during this course you have the opportunity to craft several baskets and containers that make life in the woods not just possible but pleasurable.

Initially we will look at familiarising you with the basics of weaving with willow where we guide you through making a simple round basket. We will use commercially acquired weaving willow but will cover with you how to go about harvesting natural alternatives from our woodlands. With a good grasp of several weaving styles and patterns we will progress onto further projects.

We will operate out of our stunning woodlands from a rustic woodland camp where there will always be a kettle on for hot drinks. We will break for meals at 12:00 and 18:00 but activities will likely continue into the evening in keeping with our more specialist weekends gaining you the maximum opportunity to get hands on experience.

Our final subject area to guide you through is the sensitive acquisition of tree barks for weaving containers. Our woodlands boast a fantastic diversity of tree species and we you will be shown the different properties and methods of preparing each unique type of bark.

You will leave the course with a range of craft items and hopefully a lasting
impression of just how useful our woodlands have been to our species through our history and how useful they continue to be once you know where to look.

If you have any questions on any of the above please do get in touch.
