Canoe Wild Scotland

"As you glide effortlessly over the moving water, you move into an eddy and face back upstream, content that following your training you can put your fully laden canoe exactly where you need it on the river. You look up from your craft and take in the majestic beauty of some of the most beautiful landscapes that Scotland has to offer. Rolling hills, stretching water, forest and mountains make up the scene. The autumn colours are in their full glory, as the tracks of the red deer that have been using this route for hundreds of years wind there way into the distance, before they are covered for another winter. You relax as your muscles warm to the glide of the paddle, knowing that a roaring fire and hearty meal await you back at the Scottish game lodge at the end of the days paddle, before setting of on an overnight camp tomorrow on one of Scotlands inland islands..."

This course has just been launched and we are offering an early bird discount for all bookings made in March, £100 off the usual price of £800. So you will get the course for £700 as long as a deposit is put down in March, the balance can be paid in instalments by Standing Order or 8 weeks prior to the course commencing.

This is our journey that we would like to share with you. Our Company Director Jason has teamed up with the human powered adventurer Richard Harpham to take you on a journey of Scotlands most beautiful rivers. Here we will explore some of the most stunning landscapes, study the vast and varied Scottish wildlife, consolidate and further develop your camp craft knowledge whilst at the same time work on developing your paddling skills with coaching from Richard.

With a base in our private Scottish Game Lodge we will each day head out to remote locations and paddle till our hearts content. We aim to cover journeys on Loch, moving water including rapids, and put some distance into peaceful paddling.

During this time, you can expect to develop your canoeing skills, broadening your paddle stroke knowledge, sailing, poling up stream, lining, navigation and more.

At the same time, you will learn of the local flora and fauna, and the skills required for multi day trips. Jasons extensive expedition planning experience and Richards vast knowledge of remote travel will be shared to allow you to become fully involved in how to make sensible decisions for single and multi day canoe excursions.

Our team will coach and develop your confidence to negotiate a number of different water scenarios, and you will be in a position to spend the week with Jason and Richard in a small group as they pass on their skills, enthusiasm for wild places, and knowledge.

The water, and the weather, will dictate as to where we will be paddling but as a minimum you can expect to paddle on the iconic Loch Ness, journeying on The River Spey, and an overnight camp on an island in Loch Morar, we may also visit Loch Maree and other locations subject to mother nature. On the wild camp we will put your Bushcraft skills into practice as we undertake a wild food meal cooked over the open fire. You will also learn map and compass navigation and weather permitting you will learn the constellations history, lore, and uses for navigation.

Whilst based at the lodge your food will be locally sourced and cooked communally, whilst on the wild camp it is again a communal affair.

  • Accommodation in our private game lodge, with a minimum of one wild camp
  • Canoe instruction and coaching
