Forest Bathing and Willow Craft Day Course

Join us in our beautiful woodland for a day of forest bathing in combination with a connection to the woodland through forest crafts.

The main focus will be relaxation, with activities aiming to help you open up your senses and benefit from immersion into the woodland environment. After a peaceful lunch by the fireside, we will spend the afternoon exploring willow basketry. The crafting is designed to enhance your connection with the woodland, while you reap the rewards of creative pastimes.

Engagement in handicrafts have been shown to provide many benefits to our mental wellbeing. Meanwhile there is a strong body of evidence asserting the physical and psychological benefits of Forest Bathing. Forest Bathing is an exact translation of the Japanese term Shinrin Yoku, which better translates as taking in the forest atmosphere.

Forest Bathing in Japan consists of slow walks using all the senses to mindfully engage with the woodland. Researchers around the world, including Japan and North America, have gone on to record many benefits relating to time of spent in nature, ranging from decreases in blood pressure and improvements in immunity, to clearer thinking and a more positive outlook.

Full instructions and equipment will be provided for each craft from your instructor and mentor, suitable for complete beginners or those ready for a little more challenge.

Day Structure

We will begin the morning with some gentle stretching and relaxation exercises. You will then be given step-by-step guidelines for meditations and activities designed to help you wind down and engage with the woodland. We will relax in quiet groves and by tinkling streams, before ending our morning session at the fireside for woodland teas. There will be a non-obligatory opportunity for the group to discuss their experiences in a confidential setting.

There will be plenty of hot water for drinks during lunchtime. Please bring your favourite packed lunch to enjoy and a mug for a hot drink.

The afternoon session will utilise one of the gifts of the woodland, to create an item of your design. You will also learn about our ancient ties with woodland products and receive suggestions on how to harvest wild materials for future projects.

We aim for you to leave the woodland feeling recharged from your Forest Bathing and satisfied from an afternoon of craft.

Your instructor and guide

She has trained with Stefan Batorijs and has combined tried and tested forest bathing methods with her own rich and varied nature immersion and meditational pursuits. She will guide you through the forest bathing activities with clear instructions and kindness.
