Spring Foraging Course
A days foraging for wild food and medicinal plants.
Join our highly qualified instructors for the day as they take you on a journey and open your eyes to some of the diverse and highly useful plant species we have growing here in the British Isles.
During the leisurely forage walk, we cover a broad range of plant identification and look at a large number of useful plants that we have right on our doorsteps in our British countryside.
Our instructors cover a multitude of uses from edible to medicine, camp craft to carving and even to give you an extensive knowledge surrounding each plant, including practical hands-on and personal experience regarding their uses. Where appropriate our instructors will also offer recipe suggestions and the best ways of processing each plant. All of this will include time for notes to be made, photographs to be taken and questions to be asked.
Further to this, through hands-on training, you will learn how to harvest these resources in a sustainable manner, and how to prepare each ingredient. There will be the opportunity to taste a number of the plants through the day and collect a selection of plants to incorporate in our afternoon meal.
Once we reach our expedition style camp it's all hands to the deck to prepare our ingredients, participate in some campfire cooking techniques and also have a chance (should you wish) to prepare and cook your own game. The game will typically be either game bird, mammal or fish. Vegetarian options are always available.
We deliver a range foraging courses throughout the year to discover the different resources available to you at different times of the year; a Spring Foraging Course and Autumn Foraging Course as well as a Hedgerow Medicine and Medicinal Wild Plants Day Course and a Wild Food Foraging and Preparation Weekend. On each foraging course you will join our instructors around the woodland to take a look at what we can find.
Because of the time it takes to find, collect, prepare and then cook our meal it often means we will be eating towards the end of the day, so please bring snacks with you to keep you going until then.
