The Bushcraft Basics Overnight Challenge is a completely unique one-day one night team building event which will stretch your work forces horizons to levels no other corporate away day will do! This course is designed as a fun and challenging 24 hours and has quickly developed into our most popular corporate event.

Either working as one large group, or split into competitive teams, your employees are given a number of challenges based around the four principles of survival, that are fire, food, shelter and water.

Course Itinerary:

Upon arrival at base camp, and following a safety brief, the teams are provided with the materials to construct a waterproof woodland shelter. Our instructors are on hand at all times to provide advice and assistance, but the emphasis here is on your employee’s working together to come up with solutions to problems.

Once the shelter is constructed we will have a light lunch of sandwiches/snacks/tea/coffee, before moving on to an afternoons activities which include:

Fire Lighting: Here the team will move slowly back through time. Beginning with modern fire lighting techniques the team will discover how to light a fire using sparks. Once this is mastered the team work together to discover the ancient art of lighting fire by friction (i.e. rubbing two sticks together!). Provided with all of the technical equipment… (sticks!) and under the expert guidance of our instructors, your team will create fire from nothing using a group fire bow set!

Water: During this exercise the team have to discover how to make contaminated water safe to drink. Using both modern and primitive techniques, the team will work together through the sourcing, collection, filtration and purification of water.

Navigation: Your team are given the co-ordinates of a team member in distress and utilising navigational and then search and rescue techniques the casualty has to found… the only catch is that your team do not know where they themselves are!

The afternoons activities are usually followed by an evening meal of pan fried pigeon breast in an onion, ginger and soy sauce, accompanied by rice. Vegetarian options are also made available.

The evening can consist of a few tracking games around the camp, or if you would prefer your teams can relax around the camp fire with a few drinks.

After a night in the shelter (we also provide large tents as a back up for those who may feel uncomfortable sleeping in a shelter) breakfast will be bacon and eggs cooked over the fire before it is time to break camp and head off home.

Our instructors have years worth of experience of expeditions in environments from the UK, to the jungles of Borneo, to the Deserts of the Sahara, Middle East and the USA. They are also experts at assessing groups abilities, mentoring, coaching and leading. We use this expertise to provide you at the end of your event a full written report on your team(/s) performance. Performance indicators can be adapted to suit your particular organisations goals, and will usually consist:

  • Team Work
  • Communication Skills
  • Urgency
  • Leadership
  • Adaptability/Change
