Woodland Ways Steel Flint Striker
These beautifully made high quality steels are produced exclusively by Woodland Ways.
They are designed for creating sparks by striking a piece of flint. These sparks come off at approx 400 degrees and are hot enough to light a piece of char cloth or other tinders and thus generate fire.
These steels have a high iron content which is key to producing a good shower of sparks as iron is a pyrophoric material. (from the Greek pyrophoros meaning 'fire-bearing').
This 4mm thick steel is designed for those of you who prefer to source your own flint and tinders, just the steel is supplied.
Woodland Ways also sell these steels as a complete ready to use kit which includes a steel in the design of your choice, a piece of flint, some char cloth and a storage tin.
